Watermelon
Summer harvest; fresh fruit for local and export markets.
Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) is a vegetable of the family Cucurbitaceae. It is a very healthy vegetable and is especially useful for the kidneys. They say that watermelons first grew in the Kalahari Desert in Africa, thousands of years ago. The famous explorer David Livingstone found it there in abundance in 1850. After that, the watermelon spread all around the Mediterranean.
